Family Board Games
Family board games have a great role in promoting family togetherness. A game like Monopoly can be considered a little too “grown up” for younger children, but the game of Life is certainly something that the whole family can enjoy. Games like Sorry or even Chinese checkers can be played with several people, making them ideal for a group, such as the family.
The point of a family board game is to provide a game that a child can understand and an adult won’t find overly simplistic. The concept sounds more complicated than it actually is. For example, checkers has around 1020 possible game configurations. I don’t know about you, but I can’t get my head around that number. However the rules are simple enough for a child to understand.
Checkers, however, doesn’t exactly make for a good inclusion into the category of family board games. It’s a two player game; so if you have a family of four you would need to have two games running simultaneously. By the time you get to a family of six you already have enough to set up a tournament. And god help you if you have an odd number in your family, someone gets left out.
